Don't see these come up for sale very often.

1989 Pinarello Montello f/f

Anybody looking for a 1989 Pina Montello? Apparently, this is serial number 1 in candy red (over chrome) as issued to Team Reynolds, and otherwise the same spec as what Pedro rode in TdF.

Starting bid is US$150, located about 3 hours from Toronto, Montreal, Albany or Rochester, 4 from Buffalo or ~6 from NYC (seller says s/h is US$50, though).

I was just in DesMoines last week buying a Bianchi. I can't drive there again or I'd buy this.

I am visiting in-laws in the area and was looking to pick up a bike to leave for future trips. That one looked like a good deal (the same seller had a few other good value bikes) but I couldn't get a ride from anyone to go take a look.

I second, third and jam the ballot box on that one! For many of us looking is all we can do but some of the bikes are truly something!

This may be the sign that short, fat people are outlasting the tall, skinny ones.

Or just this week.

'76 Motobecane Grand Touring mixte frameset (seller has it listed as "early '80s"), currently at $223 and still hasn't reached the reserve price.

I bought the same bike a year or two ago on eBay, complete, for ~$150. :D

Now it really makes my day-- $300 for the frameset, and 2.5 days to go on the auction. Makes that $150 I paid for the same bike (complete bike, not frameset) 2 years ago seem like a steal of a deal.

Of course, $300 is madness...

Me too. Interesting at $300 still hasn't hit reserve, so the seller clearly is aiming high. Very good presentation/marketing of a nice frame that has some interesting touches. Even getting a mixte frame w/forged dropouts is pretty good, but one with dropout adjuster screws is definitely a cut above the norm.

That all being said, I've been marvelling at the price. Don't know whether it is worth still hanging onto confederate dollars, but it looks like this may be the case with mixtes.

$362.27

Plus shipping equals $385.48

Unbelievable.

not on CL, not on eBay, but for these you have to go in person to the Salvation Army thrift store on Geary Blvd. (3rd ave.) in San Francisco:
1. Bridgestone RB1 with a Zunow fork, about 57.5cm, black and white paint, gray Mavic open pros on black-center HI-E hubs, and a hodge-podge of Shimano stuff: 105 cranks, DuraAce RD, 105 brakes, Salsa stem...a LOT of surface rust and corrosion/dirt, but no damage that I saw...the stark reality of thrift pricing in SF:
$300
2. Vitus 959 with pearl white tubes and alloy "lugs", a mix of Campy Veloce (brifters), brakes, hubs, RD but with a DA crank and FD (strange)...also a short Salsa stem, and it's a 47cm (may have been a husband/wife donation), much less rust/dirt than the RB-1, but still needs some love before riding...:twitchy:the sticker shock:
$450:twitchy:
Those of you who live where thrifts still charge $10-$25 for a bike: count your blessings (and watch out, these prices may be coming your way).
The bikes have been there for a couple days, and aren't flying out the door at these prices.

I can't EVER say I've been that lucky at a thrift for a bike ('cept Iowegian's PIF Univega and that was a divine bike intervention to save it from becoming part of a Kia)...

I did find a Sansui G-5700 for $30 2 weeks ago, that will have to sub.

30 years old, clean, 75 watts, very near to new. I didn't want a Walmart kid bike:lol::rolleyes:

PS YES! The washing machine is the perfect height to take pics of stereo gear!
